A trail proposal presented by the Friends of West Windsor Open Space (FOWWOS) called the Moses Tunda Tatamy Trail was approved at the Town Council Meeting on January 27, 2025 by unanimous consent.
The proposal was presented by Mike Schuit, the acting president of FOWWOS and Jerry Foster, a trustee of the West Windsor Bicycle and Pedestrian Alliance. They requested that the town pass a resolution supporting the project and agree to match the Green Acres funding.
The trail will run from Penn Lyle Road to the Duck Run Pump House on the Jacob Road Extension. According to Schuit, the trail will be close to a mile in length. The trail is named for a Leni Lenapi indian leader named Moses Tunda Tatamy who lived in this area in the 1700s Schuit added. FOWWOS later clarified that they are not making the claim that Tatamy lived on the land but that "he is strongly associated" with it.
The proposal for a grant for Green Acres funding is being made along with the West Windsor Historical Society and the West Windsor Bicycle and Pedestrian Alliance.
The project is estimated to cost $583,177. The township agreed to fund $291.588.50. The funding is subject to FOWWOS receiving the Green Acres funding.
