Welcome to the Rising Star Youth of Mercer County series, sponsored by the Mercer County Defense League.

Leel Dias is a high school senior who stands apart from his peers in his efforts to save lives and quality of life through his environmental and social justice activism. When Leel is not out running, studying for AP classes, practicing cello with the school orchestra or at his township planning board meeting, schooling the board members on the ill effects of their decisions, he can be found giving a TED talk on the direct ties between trash incineration and systemic racism. In January of 2024, the MCDL will be awarding an honor and scholarship to one of our featured rising stars for their work in making our community and this world a better place. To qualify as a "Rising Star Youth of Mercer County" one must either still be in school or under 25 years of age, and be a resident of Mercer County. If you would like to donate to the scholarship, contact ExDir@MCDL.org. The scholarship granted must be used for philanthropic endeavors aligned with the mission of the MCDL, to preserve and protect land, commerce and community.
